Cash-flow records

How to track private investment distributions

Keep cash actually received separate from projected, accrued, reinvested, or announced distributions.

The minimum distribution ledger

Record the cumulative amount received, the latest amount and date, the stated schedule, the payment source, and whether proceeds were cash or non-cash. Preserve the bank record, statement, or tax document that supports the entry.

When expectations and reality diverge

A quarterly target is not a payment guarantee. If a schedule exists but no recent payment date is known, ask whether distributions are delayed, suspended, accrued, or redirected to reserves. Cash yield should use cash received divided by known invested capital and should identify the period covered.
